QUESTION: WHAT ARE THE ADVANTAGES OF LOCATING A CAR FACTORY AT BURNASTON?

POSSIBLE ANSWERS: In the photo (Reference diagram Q6B) it shows that the land that the car factory is located on is flat land there is plenty of room for expansion should Toyota choose to. It is located near major cities such as Birmingham, Leicester and Nottingham and it is also within easy access to other major cities in England such as London which is only 60km away, Sheffield which is 40km away, Bristol and Manchester. There are good transport links including motorways such as the M6, M1 and M5. The factory is connected to these motorways by the A38 road. They are therefore located near a ready workforce and a place where they could sell their cars also. There is an International airport nearby which will connect the factory to other parts of the world. For example people from other countries who would like to visit the factory can fly there. Therefore it is a good link for business meetings. The location of the factory is in a pleasant environment. It is located within the Peak District National park and there is also a golf course nearby. Leisure facilities and pleasant environmental surroundings are a consideration to modern industries. In Birmingham there are industries which make wheels, electrical parts and tyres. Toyota can take advantage of the proximity of these industries and may use the parts in their factory. Toyota probably received some sort of financial incentive to locate to the area such as a grant as nearby there was a closure of British railways engineering. This would have resulted in jobs being lost and therefore the Government would have offered grants to industries choosing to locate there in order for jobs to be created for people in the area.
